Trash Disposal Rules and Guidelines

General Rules

• Only orange Pay-As-You-Throw (PAYT) bags will be accepted for household trash.

• Stickers remain the property of the Town of Hanson.

• Any violation of these rules may result in the loss of stickers.

• Hazardous wastes/products and business waste are prohibited.

• All scrap metal and other recyclables are the property of the Town.  Picking is prohibited.

Do not place the following items in the Town-approved bags:

• Recyclable plastic, glass, paper, cardboard, or metal

• Leaves, grass, or yard waste

• Dirt, sod, concrete, or rock

• Construction/demolition debris

• Household hazardous waste, including needles

• Hot ashes or flammable materials such as oil, gas, or liquid paint

Bulk Items

The transfer station serves as a drop off center for bulky items.  Residents may drop off such items during normal operating hours.  There are associated fees and a limit to the number of items that can be dropped off.

Bulk item tickets must be purchased online via the Board of Health website or at Town Hall.  You must have a valid transfer station sticker to purchase a bulky item ticket.
Mattresses, box springs, and the like must be cut up small enough to fit into the mouth of the compactor prior to disposal at the transfer station.
