All trash placed on the curb for collection must be in City-provided trash bags with a City of Columbia logo. Customers will receive vouchers in January (two for trash bags, two for recycling) and June (two for trash bags, one for recycling). Vouchers are sent to the service address regardless of who is paying for the utilities.
Vouchers are mailed out two times per year (roughly January and June) to each eligible household. Please allow until the end of month for vouchers to be received. Extra blue bag vouchers – Residents needing additional blue bags may contact WasteZero by calling 1.800.866.3954 or the form below to receive an additional blue bag voucher in the mail.
New residents – Residents who move to Columbia and are eligible for curbside service can expect to receive a voucher in the mail three to four weeks after setting up utilities with the City. If you have not received your voucher a month after your relocation, please contact City of Columbia Solid Waste Utility.
If needed, residents can purchase additional bags in rolls of five for $10 at participating retailers. The charge for the additional bags acts as a usage fee where customers throwing away more garbage will pay a higher rate. The $2-per-bag fee will cover extra costs, including the landfill disposal fee, employee salaries and vehicle maintenance.
