Trash Collection Rules and Guidelines

All trash must be out for pick up before 6:30 a.m.
Trash must be in official Stonington yellow bags, tied and not overweight
Each household will be provided with fifty-two 8-gallon green food scraps bag, one for each week of the pilot program. Additional food scrap bags will be sold for $0.40/bag and will for be available purchase at local retailers. (Retailer list to be provided at a later date.)
Place your Yellow trash bags and Green Food scraps bag curbside by 6:30am on your collection day.
Do not place the following items in the Yellow Town-approved trash bags:

Recyclable plastic, glass, or metal (place in recycling bin)

Food scraps (use green bags)

Yard waste (bring to the Transfer Station)

Dirt, sod, concrete, or rock

Construction/demolition debris

Hot ashes or flammable materials such as oil, gas, or paint

The Stonington Transfer Station provides recycling options for items not accepted at the curb, such as scrap metal, fluorescent light bulbs, batteries, electronics, waste oil, mattresses, and more.
